Ullr's Star: Ydalir.
The Northern Tradition has multiple hunting deities, likely due to each small tribe having one, and they were merged as peoples and culture came together. However, they never merged entirely into one, because some were male and some female. Ullr is the major surviving male hunting deity; he is generally seen as a friendly and jovial forest-skier who loves drink and partying. His lands are known as Ydalir or Yew-Grove, and he stood forth and named the star we know classically as Betelgeuse – the left shoulder of the constellation commonly known as Orion – as his own, named for his sacred hunting lands.
Betelgeuse was traditionally a star of success that came easy, and Ullr is definitely a God of the Easy. He skis about hunting and generally bringing good fortune in any kind of hunt, whether for game or other forms of worldly success. According to one myth, when Odin was temporarily exiled due to criminal acts, the Aesir chose Ullr as a temporary ruler due to his luck, good nature, and honesty. When Ydalir is important in a chart, it brings effectiveness, brilliance in strategy, and amplifies all one’s talents. It fulfills ambitions and gives self-confidence in both private and public affairs.
