Frigga's Star: The All-Mother's Throne
Two of the four circumpolar constellations closest to the North Pole are that of the King and the Queen, and one of them—named Cassiopeia after a mythical Queen by the Greeks—is the significator of Frigga in her role as All-Mother and Queen of Asgard. The main star in Cassiopeia is Shedir, which comes from the Arabic Al-Sadr, meaning “the breast”, as it is the Queen’s bosom. This aspect of Frigga is motherly, taking care of not only her own sons but Odin’s other sons as well. She is a patron of mothers, pregnancy, childbearing and childrearing, the peace of home and hospitality, and healthy marriage as a social institution. She is also the Lady of the Hall, bearing the cup of mead to the guests and making sure that they are taken care of.
This star was also called “The Lady in the Chair” after the whole constellation, and so Shedir is Frigga’s Throne. It balances joyous celebration with seriousness that demands respect; the biggest flaw of Frigga’s Throne is a sense of haughtiness (which can be overcome by Frigga’s own commitment to hospitality) and possibly overdoing with fine things. It is prominent in the charts of artisans who make beautiful items, although an emphasis on money and public acclaim may get in the way. However, for the most part Frigga’s Throne is characterized by dignity, respectability, and leadership that incorporates intuitive, responsive people-managing rather than just giving orders.
